What POV is needed

Which do you prefer, POVs (point of views) of many characters, or POVs of just one character through the whole story?

About Abigail

I'm an elementary education major at a college in the Midwest. I might graduate as early as December '13 but more likely May '14. I write when I can. I also knit on occasion, draw, do homework and contradict teachers to make people think. :)

I prefer the third person narrative but only focused on the protagonist (limited). Omniscient can get a bit over-indulgent. Also, first person narratives I find a bit risky. Many writer’s don’t detach themselves from the protagonist and you can tell it’s basically their thoughts and feelings as opposed to the character’s. Starter for Ten by David Nicholls is a perfect example of this. Even though I find this book highly enjoyable and it’s written well, one can’t shake the feeling that we’re learning about David Nicholls rather than the main character Brian Jackson.. That being said I’ve read a lot of first person narratives where the writer did an excellent job. However, for me and my writing, I tend to stick to the limited third person.
