How do you write?
So here’s today’s fun survey. How do you write? And by that, I mean do you write one book the whole way, edit it, and then move on to the next? Do you write more than one? Do you write in forward motion or do you write each section as they come to you?
Moreover, why do you do it that way?
Personally, I write in chronological order, but much of me thinks that I shouldn’t be doing that all the time. I always gets stuck when I need to move from March to April, and nothing really happens. So then I postpone the writing. I think if I realize that the things I want to write are the really interesting things, well, then, the things I don’t want to write are obviously boring. Maybe?
Don’t know. Just a thought. The one time I did write out of order, the characters were completely different and I kept very little of it. I’m having a harder time deciding how to balance everything that I want to write.
New year, new goals
Since this is a new year, and everyone talks about all the new year’s resolutions they are making, the obvious question is:
Have you made any New Year’s resolution concerning your writing?
I haven’t, but as a thought concerning this, I read once that it is better to produce than to spend time. A resolution could be:
I will write for one hour every day.
A better one would be:
I will write five pages a week.
I don’t know about you, but when I get on the computer, even if I want to write, I get on facebook, check that out, check out the stats, check out the weather, and hundreds of other things before I actually start writing. When I do start writing, I’ll sometimes check facebook every couple minutes, or mess with my music, or decide to play music, or any number of other things.
With the second one, I’m committed to writing, no matter how many times I check facebook.
So what about you? What are you doing this year in regards to writing?
Books.
Christmas break makes me think of books. And speaking of books…
How often do you read a book as a writer?
I have to admit that I almost never read books. I don’t have time during the school year, and it takes so much time from writing if I do read. :P I really need to get batter at it though.
He’s telling me he was married.
Today’s question goes back to the article I wrote in May, about all writers haveing some mental illness.
Do you characters talk to you or in some way seem to communicate with you?
Obviously, mine do. :)
To create a world
Do you make helps for your stories? (i.e., portraits of characters, maps, glossaries, character indexes, family trees, &c.)
What if….?
Since science fiction is all about the “what ifs,” this should be perfect for many people?
What is one invention that you can’t wait for? Have you written a story about it?
And yes, this is a total steal from the contest on Critters, but I won’t steal any of your ideas, though I honestly shouldn’t be telling you about it either, because then it’s more competition for me. :)
